Phulkari Khaddar Coats

These stunning hand embroidered jackets hold an ancestral and deeply personal love story.

The outer layer is made from Phulkari embroidered khaddar baghs found by going from house to house around villages in the Punjab state of India. Each embroidered shawl is between 40-90 years old and was originally gifted by a mother or grandmother to their daughter on her wedding day. Each piece is unique and one-of-a-kind, telling a special story through its motif that a woman would spend around five years to embroider. This art has slowly withered away in the wake of modernisation, but families have been passing them on and kept them in safekeeping for generations. They are truly precious antique pieces of a stunning women's craft that stretches from Punjab into Pakistan, and that some believe traces all the way back and west to Iran.

Each piece is unique and one-of-a-kind.
